Today is International Firefighters Day
International Firefighters' Day (IFFD) is observed annually on May 4th to honor the bravery, sacrifices, and dedication of firefighters worldwide. Established in 1999, this day recognizes those who risk their lives to protect communities and remembers those lost in the line of duty, often marked by a 30-second siren and minute of silence. The date was chosen to coincide with St. Florian's Day, honoring the patron saint of firefighters who was a Roman officer dedicated to firefighting.
May 4th is also widely celebrated as Star Wars Day, an unofficial international holiday honoring the film franchise based on the pun "May the Fourth be with you".
