Today is the Feast Day of
Saint Martin de Porres
St. Martin de Porres was a Peruvian Dominican friar who lived from 1579–1639, known for his compassion, charitable works, and miracles. Born in Lima, Peru, to a Spanish nobleman and a freed Black slave, he experienced poverty and neglect, which fueled his lifelong compassion for the poor and marginalized. He became a lay brother in the Dominican Order and is known for his work with the sick and the poor and his dedication to social justice.
Sounds like he would have fit in very well here at St. Nicholas.
