And another new week begins!

August 31, 2026
August is National Civility Month

National Civility Month was established in 2014 by the International Institute for Civil Leadership to promote respect, empathy, and polite behavior in communities and workplaces.

It was created to counter rising societal polarization, digital-age rudeness, and workplace friction by reminding individuals to practice active listening and treat others with dignity.

Although the entire month of August was devoted to civility and our nod to that virtue  just made it under the wire today, the last day of August, one day is probably enough for our people.  We are  legendary in our ability to yield to one another.   It was Garrison Keillor who noted,  "... It’s natural for Episcopalians to sing in harmony. We are too modest to be soloists, too worldly to sing in unison. When you’re singing in the key of C and you slide into the A7th and D7th chords, all two hundred of you, it’s an emotionally fulfilling moment. By our joining in harmony, we somehow promise that we will not forsake each other."

Clearly, addressing Episcopalians on the value of civility is like preaching to the choir.

Good News!

We are pleased to announce that Denise Sylvestri has accepted the position of Parish Administrator for St. Nicholas Episcopal Church.

Denise is a member of our Parish family and you probably already know her as the driving force behind the Birthday Card Ministry.  She has been instrumental in updating our member contact information and reaching out to members who are unable to attend services due to illness. Denise will be a great asset to St. Nicholas.

We thank the other two candidates for applying and being interviewed.  All three brought positive attributes, skills and timing to the table.

Save the Date:

Sunday, September 13, 10:30am
Extended Coffee Hour

Whether we call it 'Hail and Farewell' or
'Changing of the Guard' or 'Passing the Torch,'
we will take some time after Sunday's service
to welcome Denise Sylvestri as the next
Parish Administrator and thank
Tricia Blair for her time in that position.

Next Sunday...

Just a reminder that
Fr. Roger as Priest in Residence
is available for all pastoral services—
hospital visits, counseling,
baptisms, weddings, and funerals.
His gift to this parish is beyond measure!
Please tell him Thank You!
